Voices from Analytica 2026
At analytica 2026, the world's leading trade fair for laboratory technology, analysis, and biotechnology in Munich, we spoke with customers from public-sector organizations and contract testing laboratories about their analytical challenges, current trends, and their experiences with Metrohm.
Watch the videos below to learn how laboratories are addressing topics such as PFAS analysis, environmental monitoring, and automation, and why reliable instrumentation and strong support remain essential for their success.
PFAS and fluorine analysis: Meeting evolving laboratory requirements
Ms. Hieber, Chemical Laboratory Technician at Quality Analysis GmbH, shares how demand for fluorine analysis continues to grow across a wide range of industries. Applications include environmental samples, food packaging materials, and firefighting foams, all driven by increasing attention to PFAS and evolving regulatory requirements.
Her laboratory uses Metrohm ion chromatography systems, a combustion IC solution, and Karl Fischer titration instruments to answer complex customer questions. She highlights the importance of flexibility, dependable instrumentation, and expert application support when dealing with highly diverse sample matrices and analytical challenges.

Fast response times are essential
Michaela Tonding from the Society for Bioanalytics discusses the importance of reliable instrumentation and responsive support in a high-throughput contract laboratory environment. Her team depends on rapid turnaround times and consistent instrument performance.
She explains how Metrohm instruments help determine important parameters such as chloride, sulfite, fluoride, and moisture content, and emphasizes the value of quick technical support when results must be delivered without delay. Looking ahead, she identifies automation and PFAS analysis as key topics that will continue shaping laboratory operations.
And we actually chose Metrohm because we looked at the service first, and then the instruments won us over.
Michaela Tonding,
Head of Laboratory at Society for Bioanalytics
Environmental monitoring: Reliable analytics for forest and water protection
Dr. Blum, Head of Laboratory at the Bavarian State Institute of Forestry, explains how his team analyzes environmental samples ranging from soil, plants, and forest ecosystems to rainwater, surface water, and seepage water.
The laboratory uses Metrohm titration and ion chromatography systems to determine key water quality parameters such as chloride, conductivity, pH, alkalinity, and inorganic ions. In the interview, Dr. Blum also discusses one of the main challenges facing analytical laboratories today: increasing cost pressure coupled with a shortage of qualified personnel. Having worked with Metrohm for decades, he highlights the reliability of the instruments as well as the quality of the technical support and service team.

Less hardware, more flexibility
Dr. Roman Neufeld, Senior Research Scientist at Solstice, shared his impressions of the IONIC Titrator. He praised the instrument's standalone operation, intuitive touchscreen, and cloud connectivity, which allow users to access titration data from virtually anywhere while reducing dependence on dedicated computers and operating systems.
The fact that everything gets uploaded to the cloud, and in the end you can control it from a laptop, or even from an iPad or tablet, that’s really impressive too.
