Compared with other methods, such as virus isolation cultures, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), and other molecular methods, including polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), electrochemical testing promises fast, affordable, and precise testing using compact instrumentation. In addition, electrochemical testing is also suitable for large-scale testing in remote areas that lack the resources required for other methods.
